Panchayat elections backbone of grassroots democracy: GM Shaheen

Srinagar, Jan 18: A one-day convention of Janata Dal United (JDU) was held at Dak Bungalow, Baramulla, under the leadership of Party President GM Shaheen, with the participation of all senior State Executive leaders, district presidents, and key office bearers from across J&K.

Addressing the convention, GM Shaheen laid strong emphasis on the upcoming Panchayat elections, terming them the backbone of grassroots democracy. He called upon the party leadership and workers to gear up with full seriousness, discipline, and unity, and work relentlessly to strengthen the party organization at the grassroots level. He directed the cadre to activate booth-level committees, identify strong local leadership, and establish direct contact with the people to understand and raise their genuine issues, said a press release.

Shaheen asserted that JDU is firmly committed to clean politics, democratic values, and people-centric governance. He stated that the party will aggressively expand its organisational base in every district, block, and Panchayat to emerge as a strong, credible, and effective voice of the people. He warned against complacency and made it clear that performance, accountability, and dedication will be the guiding principles of the party going forward. The convention concluded with a unanimous resolve to intensify political and organizational activities across Jammu and Kashmir and to prepare the party in a focused, disciplined, and time-bound manner for the forthcoming Panchayat elections.
