“We have seen violence bring misery and suffering. This time, we decided to vote because we want development and peace in our areas,” said a group of voters at Palhallan Polling Station. “We are tired of being used as pawns in a game that only destroys our lives.”

“We were part of the protests and stone-pelting. But after seeing the destruction and loss, we realised it was all futile,” they said. “Today, we voted for a better future for our family and my community. We need jobs, education, and infrastructure, not chaos.”

Feroz Ahmad said that they have had enough of the turmoil in the past.  “Our lives have been disrupted for too long. Voting is our chance to bring about positive change and ensure that our voices are heard in a constructive manner,” he said.

A group of people comprising village heads said that the people of Palhallan had shown great maturity and resilience.

“Our and youth’s participation in the democratic process is a clear indication that we want to move forward and leave behind the shadows of violence,” they said. “The large turnout of first-time voters in Palhallan is a significant development. It reflects a growing realisation among the youth that peaceful participation in the democratic process is the only way to achieve lasting change and development.”

As the day progressed, the enthusiasm among voters remained high, with many expressing hope for a new beginning. The sight of long queues at polling stations was a testament to the community's commitment to democracy and development.

Palhallan's first-time voters have sent a powerful message by turning away from violence and embracing the ballot.  Their active participation in Monday’s election underscores a collective desire for peace, progress, and a brighter future for their community.

This historic turnout marks a pivotal moment in Palhallan's journey towards reconciliation and development.
