Pakistan trying to push in more terrorists: DG BSF

Srinagar, Nov 9: Stressing that with the onset of winter, Pakistan would try to push in more terrorists, Director General Border Security Force, Nitin Agrawal on Thursday said their posts were attacked thrice in the past two weeks.

He was referring to a ceasefire violation in which one BSF personnel was killed on Thursday in the Samba district of Jammu.
“They have attacked our posts two to three times. They have targeted our soldiers. But, our forces are alert and have retaliated well,” the DG BSF told reporters after a passing out parade and attestation ceremony held here at Humhama where he was the chief guest.

“There is perhaps severe damage on that side, but it is not confirmed yet,” he said adding that it had been happening for the past two weeks. “We do not know the reason behind it. We are discussing it and once we get to know the reasons, we will devise a strategy.”

About any chances of escalation at borders, Agrawal said it was difficult to say as to what would happen.
“We do not start it from our end, but, whenever it takes place, we effectively retaliate,” he said.

About his visit to LoC on Wednesday, he said that there was an attempt to push terrorists before the onset of winter, snowfall, and closure of tracks every year.
“But, we are alert. I visited the LoC and met my troops and Army officers. They are alert and if there is any infiltration attempt, we will foil it,” the DG BSF said.
He said that every year they try to push in maximum before snowfall.

“But, we foil their designs every year and that is happening this year too,” Agrawal said. “They are trying, but their designs are not succeeding.”
He said that a terrorist was killed in Shopian.

“They are attacking common people, this is a sign of desperation,” the DG BSF said.
Earlier, addressing the 599 passing out recruits, he appreciated the excellent display of self-confidence, skills, and coordination which was the high point of the parade.
Agrawal applauded the recruits for choosing BSF as a career option and exhorted them to serve the country with courage and enthusiasm.
He congratulated the Inspector General, Ftr Headquarters, BSF, Kashmir, and the instructional teams for successful efforts in achieving the objectives of moulding the recruits, giving them self-confidence and turning them into disciplined soldiers.

The DG BSF wished the recruits a bright future in their life and professional service ahead.
He awarded medals to recruits who performed exceptionally well in various indoor and outdoor training activities.

The parade was commanded by Const P Narendra (Batch No 116 ‘D’ Coy).
Five trainees from each batch were adjudged best in different competitions and were presented with trophies.
