Pakistan Army resorts to unprovoked firing along LoC in Kupwara, Uri, Akhnoor; Indian Army responds swiftly

Srinagar, May 03: The Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked small arms firing during the intervening night of May 2 and 3 along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.

Army officials told news agency JKNS that Indian Army troops deployed in the forward areas gave a prompt and proportionate response to the cross-border provocation, effectively silencing the hostile fire.

The firing, which occurred without any immediate provocation, targeted multiple sectors along the LoC. Officials said no casualties were reported on the Indian side, and the situation was under control.

“There was unprovoked small-arms fire from across the LoC opposite Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor during the night. Our troops responded befittingly and ensured no damage to life or property,” an army officer said.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the repeated ceasefire violations, despite existing understandings between the two sides to maintain calm along the LoC.

Meanwhile, security forces remain on high alert in the border areas, and vigil has been intensified to counter any further misadventure.
