Owe my victory to my father, BJP workers: Devyani
Jammu, Nov 14: Exuberant Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Devyani Rana, who announced her impressive arrival on the political-scape of J&K with her resounding victory in her maiden electoral venture in Nagrota assembly by-poll on Friday, has credited her win to her late father, “Devender Singh Rana, party rank and file and affable people of her constituency.”
“I shall be forever grateful to the Nagrota people who blessed me with such an overwhelming mandate. Each and every family there showered me with similar love, compassion as they had blessed Rana Sahib in 2024,” stated beaming Devyani, while responding to media queries at the Government Polytechnic College, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
“I dedicate my victory to the late Devender Singh Ranaji, each and every dedicated worker of the BJP, the esteemed leadership of the BJP, the people of Nagrota and every member of the Rana family, who supported me at every step with an unflinching commitment. I’m simply overwhelmed with this love. I will make every possible effort to live up to the aspirations of Nagrota people. I believe in a 360-degree view of development, inclusive and empowering. I’ve taken a solemn pledge to fulfil all the promises made by my father to Nagrota people - our extended family,” she stated, as she reached there at Polytechnic College – the counting centre, to collect her certificate after she was officially declared the winner.
Devyani was accompanied by the party election in-charge and MLA Sham Lal Sharma.
Since she maintained her lead throughout, her supporters started reaching her residence at Gandhi Nagar even before the result was announced.
It was a festive ambience around with people offering her bouquets and garlanding her as the slogans “Jab Tak Suraj Chand Rahega, Rana Tera Naam Rahega” rent the air. She too amiably accepted their greetings and rejoiced at the moments.
A rousing reception by the party workers awaited her at the Polytechnic College as well as the party office.
J&K BJP president and MP Sat Sharma, the Leader of Opposition in J&K Legislative Assembly Sunil Sharma too joined her along with other party MLAs.
She extended gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president J P Nadda, national general secretary Tarun Chugh, J&K BJP president Sat Sharma, LoP Sunil Sharma, MP Jugal Kishore Sharma and all other senior party leaders for their support and compassion.
Responding to questions related to the allegations levelled by her opponents, Devyani said, “I’ve nothing to say as Nagrota people have aptly responded to them with their mandate and blessings showered on me.”
Devyani defeated JKNPP (I) candidate and former minister Harsh Dev Singh with a margin of 24647 votes in the by-poll, the results of which were announced on Friday, November 14, 2025.
Later, the BJP held a felicitation ceremony at the party headquarters in Jammu to honour its newly elected BJP MLA from the Nagrota assembly constituency.
The ceremony was led by J&K BJP president, accompanied by J&K BJP general secretary (organization) Ashok Koul; Rajya Sabha MP Gulam Ali Khatana; assembly constituency incharge and MLA Sham Lal Sharma; co-incharge Bharat Bhushan, and other senior party leaders and MLAs.
Speaking on the occasion, Sat Sharma said that the massive victory of Devyani Rana was a clear endorsement of the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who transformed governance by prioritizing the poor, the needy, and the most neglected sections of society. He said that the people of Nagrota reposed their faith in the BJP because they witnessed development on the ground, not on paper.
Ashok Koul said that the party’s victory in Nagrota reflects years of dedicated work by BJP cadres who reached the last mile to address local concerns.
Sham Lal Sharma congratulated Devyani Rana and assured full support for development initiatives. He said the BJP was determined to ensure holistic growth in Nagrota, from infrastructure to social welfare, and would work tirelessly to meet the aspirations of every resident.
Expressing her thanks, Devyani Rana said that she was humbled by the trust the people of Nagrota placed in her. She assured every citizen of unwavering commitment, hard work, and transparent service.
Later, senior leaders led by Sat Sharma, along with Devyani, visited the Mata Bawe Wali Shrine to seek divine blessings for a successful tenure dedicated to public service.
Devyani later visited Nagrota to extend her gratitude to her people and renew her commitment for their welfare.
