Overloaded vehicle hangs on damaged culvert near GMC Rajouri, traffic disrupted
Rajouri, Sep 7: Traffic was briefly halted near Government Medical College Rajouri on Sunday after an overloaded goods vehicle got stuck on a damaged culvert, sparking panic among commuters and anger over the authorities’ failure to repair the stretch.
The vehicle almost flipped, with the front portion of the vehicle hanging in the air, causing panic among passersby.
According to locals, the vehicle was stated to be overloaded, which made it difficult for the driver to maintain balance while crossing the damaged culvert.
The incident led to a brief suspension of traffic after people, fearing a mishap, blocked the movement of vehicles on the stretch.
Residents expressed strong resentment over the Border Road Organisation's alleged failure to repair the culvert, which they claim has been lying in a dilapidated condition for several months.
“This spot has turned into a death trap, yet no one bothers,” an agitated commuter said.
The location has already been a cause of concern for traders and residents.
Earlier, heavy floods at the same point had inflicted massive property losses in Rajouri’s Kheora market area.
