Overloaded mini bus seized in Chenani

Ramban, Jan 24: Traffic Police National Highway seized an overloaded mini bus and arrested its driver for endangering the lives of passengers on the Srinagar- Jammu National Highway at Chenani area on Wednesday.

Official sources said a traffic police team of Traffic Sub Division Udhampur led by Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI ) Mushtaq Ahmed Sector Officer (SO) Chenani intercepted a mini bus bearing registration number JK21D- 4329 heading towards Chenani from Udhampur.

They said during checking minibuses were found carrying 52 passengers against the seating capacity of 24 only. The vehicle was carrying 28 passengers above seating capacity and endangering human lives by overloading. They said the mini bus was seized and the driver of the vehicle Manipal Singh son of Baldev Singh was arrested on the spot.

A case FIR No., 12 of 2024 under section 279/336 IPC stands registered at Police Station Chenani.

SSP Traffic Police National Highway Headquarters Ramban, Rohit Baskotra confirmed that an overloaded vehicle was seized and the driver of the vehicle was arrested for endangering the lives of passengers in the Chenani area.

He said the Traffic Police has registered four case FIRs this month and is working day and night to make roads safe for passengers by taking stringent action against Motor Vehicle Act violators.
