Over 60,000 youths join UP Police Force: Amit Shah hails transparent Recruitment in UP
New Delhi, Jun 15: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday handed over appointment letters to 60,244 newly recruited civil police constables of the Uttar Pradesh Police at a grand ceremony in Lucknow, calling it a historic day for the country’s largest police force and a symbol of a “new era of transparency and merit-based governance.” “Today, more than 60,000 youth are going to become an integral part of the largest police force in India,” Shah said. The recruitment, drawn from over 48 lakh applications, was conducted “purely on merit without any bribe, political influence, recommendations, caste, or corruption,” he emphasised.
Among those appointed, over 12,000 are young women, a reflection of the Modi government’s push for gender inclusivity in public services. “Seeing the confidence, enthusiasm, and joy on their faces brings great satisfaction,” Shah said, noting that Uttar Pradesh is implementing women’s reservation in police recruitment with 100% adherence.
Addressing the recruits, Shah said, “You are joining the UP Police during the Amrit Kaal, a time of transformation. By 2047, India will become number one in every field, and Uttar Pradesh will play the biggest role in that journey.”
Shah credited Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with transforming the state’s law and order situation since 2017, which he said had been deteriorating in the years prior. “With Yogi Ji’s leadership, the UP Police began to move forward and achieve new heights,” he said.
Reflecting on broader national progress, Shah said, “Earlier, recruitments were driven by caste politics. Today, technology has empowered transparency.” He urged the new recruits to uphold the principles of “security, service, and sensitivity,” and added that they should become protectors for the poor, Dalits, backward classes, and tribals while instilling fear among goons and mafias.
Highlighting the Centre’s efforts on policing reform, Shah said the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam will bring about a judicial revolution. “In the next five years, justice will be delivered within three years of the filing of any FIR, all the way up to the Supreme Court,” he said.
Citing achievements under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Shah stated, “In 11 years, 25 crore people have come out of poverty. Free gas cylinders, toilets, piped water, and ₹5 lakh health insurance have transformed lives.” He also emphasized India’s rising global stature: “In 2014, India was the world’s 11th largest economy; today, we are 4th, and by 2027, we’ll be 3rd. Our youth now have opportunities to rise through the New Education Policy, over 150 airports, and 143 metro projects.”
Turning to internal security, Shah said, “Naxalism, once spread across 11 states, is now confined to three districts, and India will be completely Naxal-free by March 31, 2026.” He recounted India’s strong military responses to terror attacks: “The Modi government responded to Uri with surgical strikes, to Pulwama with airstrikes, and to Poonch with Operation Sindoor, sending a strong message: Indian blood will not be spilled without retribution.”
Shah also cited India’s space milestone, reaching an unexplored part of the Moon and naming it Shivshakti Point, as a symbol of national pride. “From reviving cultural pride with the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor to enacting the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand, Prime Minister Modi has shaped a new India,” he said. Concluding his address, Shah reminded the recruits: “You are now responsible not just for enforcing law and order, but for securing a future where Uttar Pradesh becomes both developed and safe.”
