The felling of 500-year-old Chinar trees in Anantnag’s Rani Bagh has sparked anger among environmentalists and heritage activists. This comes barely weeks after the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Research Institute (JKFRI) conducted geo-tagging of Chinar trees in Srinagar. According to local sources, the trees, believed to be over 500 years old, were cut down despite their historical and ecological significance.
