Our only concern is our children’s safety: Kashmir parents plead for evacuation
Sopore, Mar 2: Anxiety and fear have gripped several families across Kashmir after they reportedly lost contact with their children studying in Iran amid a rapidly deteriorating security situation in the region. Distressed parents have made an urgent appeal to the Government of India to intervene and ensure the safe evacuation of their wards at the earliest.
Among the affected families are residents of Sopore town, Mehraj Ud Din and Arshid Ahmad Sidique, whose daughters are pursuing MBBS degrees in Tehran. The parents said they have been unable to establish contact with their daughters for the past two days, triggering deep concern over their safety.
“Our daughters went to Iran to pursue medical education and secure their future. For the last two days, there has been no communication. We are unable to sleep and the entire family is in distress,” they said, urging authorities to take immediate steps for their safe return.
Tehran hosts a significant number of Indian students, including many from Kashmir, who travel to Iran each year to pursue medical and other professional courses. Families said reports of escalating tensions and uncertainty in the region have intensified their fears.
Similar concerns have been voiced by parents across the Kashmir Valley, many of whom claim they have also lost contact with their children studying in different parts of Iran. Several families said they are anxiously waiting for official updates and are seeking a coordinated evacuation plan from the Government of India.
“We appeal to the Ministry of External Affairs to immediately establish contact with the students and arrange for their evacuation. Our children’s safety is our only concern,” said another parent from Baramulla district.
The families have urged Indian authorities and the Embassy of India in Iran to set up reliable communication channels, provide regular updates, and draw up a comprehensive repatriation plan to bring the stranded students back home safely.
As uncertainty continues to loom, parents across Kashmir remain on edge, hoping for swift action and reassurance from the government to ensure the well-being of their children abroad.
