Opposition ready to support Govt in whatever action it takes: Rahul Gandhi

Srinagar, Apr 25: Asserting that the recent Pahalgam terror attack was a ìterrible tragedyî, Leader of Opposition ( LoP) in Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Friday said that the united Opposition had condemned the attack tooth and nail and was ready to support the government in whatever action it takes.

ìMembers of the Opposition attended a meeting with the central government on Thursday. We are ready to support whatever action the government wants to take. The idea behind this attack is to divide society and make brothers fight brothers. It is imperative that every Indian stands united and stands together so that we can defeat what the terrorists were trying to do,î Gandhi said.

He said his visit to Srinagar was to gauge the ground situation.

ìIt has been a terrible tragedy and I came here to get a sense of what is going on and to help. The people of Jammu and Kashmir have condemned this terrible action,î Gandhi said.

He said it was disheartening to see that some fringe elements were attacking Kashmiris in outside states.

ìIt is very important that we stand united and stand together to fight this nasty action that has been taken and defeat terrorism once and for all,î Gandhi said.

He said it was heartening to see the people of J&K fully support the nation at this time.

ìI met one of the people, who was injured. I couldnít meet others as the injured people and their family members have gone back,î Gandhi said. ìMy love and affection to everybody who has lost family members. I want to tell everyone that the entire nation is standing together as one.î

He said he met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during his Srinagar visit.

ìThey briefed me about what had happened and I assured them that I and my party are going to support them fully,î Gandhi said.

Earlier, Gandhi called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhavan.

He was accompanied by Congress Member of Parliament K C Venugopal, Congress MLAs Ghulam Ahmad Mir and Tariq Hameed Karra, and Rajya Sabha MP Syed Naseer Hussain.

The discussions covered various aspects of the heinous terror attack in Pahalgam.
