Open garbage dump at Rawalpora irks commuters
Srinagar, Feb 5: Commuters have expressed concern over the open garbage dump on the main road at Rawalpora and demanded its closure.
A delegation of commuters said that the open garbage dump attracts scores of stray dogs. “These dogs rummage through the garbage and even block a portion of the main road. This poses a risk of accidents on the busy road. The stray dogs also chase pedestrians and scooterists, especially in evening hours,” they said.
“It is ironic that at a time when authorities are busy turning Srinagar into a Smart City, open garbage dumps take the sheen off on the project.
The commuters urged Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation to order the closure of the garbage dump or place closed containers to prevent entry of stray dogs.
