Op Sindoor proves tri-service synergy: CDS Anil Chauhan
New Delhi, Aug 10: Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has hailed the success of Operation Sindoor as a powerful demonstration of the operational cohesion and synergy among the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Addressing officers attending the 21st Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC) at the College of Defence Management (CDM) in Secunderabad, General Chauhan spoke on “Jointness and Integration in the Armed Forces,” outlining strategic lessons from the operation and their relevance to future integrated missions. He emphasised the need for comprehensive capability development, self-reliance in defence manufacturing, and an in-depth grasp of technological shifts shaping modern warfare. “Disruptive changes in technology demand adaptive strategies and integrated operational planning,” he noted.
Delivering a talk on “National Security Architecture and Higher Defence Management,” the CDS detailed the evolution of India’s defence structure, the role of the Department of Military Affairs, and the functioning of national security committees in key decision-making.
He reviewed ongoing reforms including organisational restructuring and the planned rollout of theatre commands aimed at enhancing joint capability across the Services.
As part of efforts to strengthen joint logistics, General Chauhan released the Joint Primer for Integrated Logistics, a CDM-prepared guide covering digitisation, common provisioning and procurement, and integration with the national logistics framework. “Logistics is the backbone of military operations, and integration across the Services is critical to meeting strategic goals,” he said. The primer is designed to improve tri-service coordination, streamline processes, and raise operational efficiency.
The CDS also inaugurated a Smart Bike Public Bicycle Sharing Facility at CDM, enabling personnel to access e-bicycles for daily commuting. The project, developed in collaboration with Smart Bike Mobility Pvt Ltd, aims to reduce the institution’s carbon footprint while promoting sustainable transport and healthier lifestyles. CDM Commandant Maj Gen Harsh Chhibber briefed the CDS on recent steps to strengthen professional military education for shaping future strategic leaders. The CDM, India’s premier tri-service institution for higher defence management, currently runs a 44-week HDMC with 167 participants, including 12 officers from friendly nations, underscoring India’s focus on regional military cooperation.
