Srinagar, Sep 25:: Senior Congress leader and president of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Tariq Hameed Karra on Wednesday said that the Congress was the only party fighting against the divisive and communal policies of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Talking to reporters after casting his vote, Karra said that the decision was in the people’s court. “I hope that in the court of people, the decision will be in favor of Congress as it is the only party which is fighting against the divisive and communal policies of BJP,” he said.

He said that wherever the Congress candidates are contesting, the people should vote for them and understand the importance of Congress at national level. “The way congress is fighting against BJP it is playing an important role at the national level and state level. That is why people should show their interest towards Congress,” Karra said.

About the visit of foreign delegations, he said there were two aspects to this. “One is that J&K has always taken a very central position and the second is that maybe this will give clarity as to what people want. It will observe the process of election,” he said.

Asked about the position of the Congress Party in J&K, he said that the people will decide on it on October 8. “If someone is competing with BJP in Jammu, it is only the Congress Party. And on that basis you see such an enthusiasm among people in Kashmir is due to Jammu and vice versa,” JKPCC Chief said.

About the response to their campaigning, Karra said that there was a very good response in the campaigning. “I have always emphasized one thing during my campaigning that people should realise that this election is not about lanes, drains, developmental issues which used to be the demand during previous elections,” he said.

He said their contentious and sensitive issues are mostly about statehood. “This election is about restoration of statehood and complete statehood with rights, land rights, job rights. It is about our identity, our existence and the existence of our future generations,” he said.

He said the people are showing anger towards humiliation done on August 5 of 2019 “scrapping undemocratically”. He however did not mention Article 370.
