Jammu, Apr 14: Cyber Cell of District Police Jammu Sunday stated to have solved online financial fraud of Rs 1.15 lakh by addressing four separate cyber crime complaints.

A police spokesperson said that a complaint was received regarding financial fraud of Rs 45000. The complainant received a fake credit message after that fraudster called him and asked if an amount was wrongly transferred and requested to send him the transferred amount back. The victim sent the amount without checking the balance of his bank statement. Later on, he found the text message and an amount of Rs 45,000 got deducted from his account.

“Another complaint was received regarding financial fraud of Rs 35,000 in which an artificial grass seller searched an online dealer (wholesaler) of artificial grass. In the process, he contacted the fraudsters who committed a fraud robbing him of an amount of Rs 35,000,” the police spokesperson said.

A police spokesperson said that the third complaint of financial fraud of Rs 25000 related to a karyana (provision) shop owner. “The shopkeeper received a phone call in which the suspect ordered some items and sent a fake message of payment and the complainant sent him an amount of Rs 25,000,” he said.

Another complaint was received in which the complainant was robbed of Rs 10,000 by the fraudster. The complainant made transactions after which the fraudster demanded more money and then the complainant smelt fraud and reported the matter to police.

“During the investigation, the Cyber Cell DPO Jammu, acted swiftly and exhibited hectic efforts which ultimately led to put on hold an amount of Rs 1,02,000 out of Rs 1,15,000 in these four separate online cyber crime complaints. Further investigation is underway,” the spokesperson said.

SSP Jammu Dr Vinod Kumar reiterated his appeal to the general public to remain extra vigilant and report promptly to the national helpline number 1930 or Cyber Cell DPO Jammu helpline number 8899537995. He also encouraged citizens to lodge cyber complaints online at www.cybercrime.gov.in. and www.ceir.gov.in for lost or stolen mobile. SSP Jammu emphasised the importance of awareness and collaboration in effectively combating cyber threats.

“District Police Jammu, equipped with advanced technology and skilled personnel, remains at the forefront in the fight against cyber criminals,” SSP Jammu said.
