'One year enough for GoI': CM Omar Abdullah on restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar, Jan 02: The J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that passage of one year was enough for the Government of India to restore the Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
In his opening remarks duirng a press conference at SKICC, CM Omar Abdullah said that the Supreme Court while announcing its verdict on Article 370 asked the Government of India to restore Statehood "as soon as possible."
"So one year has passed and that is enough for Government of India to restore Statehood," Omar Abdullah said.
He said that the people largely participated in Assembly elections held in October 2024 and received appreciation from the Government of India.
"So in return, the people of Jammu and Kashmir also have expectations that they will be rewarded for maximum participation in the elections. We are hopeful that statehood will be restored in Jammu and Kashmir as soon as possible," he said.
About the governance, CM Omar Abdullah said that they realise that emotions and aspirations of the people need to be taken care of, and they are trying their best to ensure good governance.
"There are so many things that we got as baggage, but I do not want to point out these issues one by one," he said.
He said the NC government made a good beginning and is committed to fulfilling all the promises that have been made to the people before elections.
"We will not backtrack on our promises and commitments we have made to the people," he said.
About the functioning of the media houses, CM Omar Abdullah said that he would want to see free media without any interference besides pull and pressure from any quarters.
"I would want to see that there will be no telephone calls from anywhere about what to publish and what not. This interaction is a step in that direction," he said.
