One week summer vacation for schools likely from July 1: Education Minister Sakina Itoo
Amid the prevailing heat wave and the soaring temperature in Kashmir, the government is mulling to announce the summer vacation for schools from July 1.
In an exclusive interview with Greater Kashmir, Education Minister Sakina Itoo Thursday said, ìThe government is considering announcing the summer vacation for the schools from July 1 for 10 days. Following this we will assess weather conditions before announcing any extension in summer vacations.î
She said that July 12 and 13 fall on Saturday and Sunday, ìso we may reopen schools from July 14 of 2025.î
The Education Minister said that the department had also decided to reduce school hours and fix new timing for the schools across Kashmir from Saturday, June 21.
ìThe timing of schools within Srinagar municipal limits will be from 8 am to 1 pm and for schools outside Srinagar municipal limits and other districts will be from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. The order will be issued on Friday,î she said.
The statement comes amid the growing demand from the stakeholders for the announcement of summer vacations for schools.
Meteorologists have predicted a forecast of intense heatwave till Saturday for Srinagar.
On Thursday, Srinagar recorded the highest June temperature in the last two decades with the mercury settling at 35.2 degrees Celsius.
