‘One Nation, One Election’ to improve efficiency, reduce costs: Ashok Koul
Jammu, Mar 24: J&K BJP General Secretray (Organisation) Ashok Koul today said that “One Nation, One Election” will improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance political stability.
According to a press release, he was addressing a party programme here. Ashok Koul stated that the “One Nation, One Election” will coordinate the election cycle for the Lok Sabha (Parliament) and State Legislative Assemblies in the nation. He stressed that instead of having elections multiple times in a year, this model aims to conduct all elections simultaneously, either in a single phase or in multiple phases within a short period.
“The frequent elections involve massive spending by the government and political parties. Conducting elections together would significantly reduce the cost of security, logistics, and administrative efforts,” the BJP leader said.
Ashok Koul further said that the frequent elections lead to the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which restricts government decisions and policy implementations. A synchronized election cycle would prevent frequent policy standstills. He added that the simultaneous elections will improve voter participation, as people would need to vote only once in a given period rather than multiple times for different elections.
