Soon after Omar took over as the Chief Minister of J&K, he rescinded a few orders to send a message that the democratic government in the Union Territory has the power to take decisions.

Earlier this week the J&K Government announced that schools in Kashmir would revert back to the old academic year scheme for students upto class 9 from this year itself. “The school examinations will now be held in November-December instead of March,” Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said.

National Conference chief spokesman and MLA Zadibal, Tanveer Sadiq, said that the Chief Minister has shown the way first by passing a resolution for statehood in the cabinet and then getting it approved. “Another achievement is reverting back to the November academic session. It was a huge and constant demand by the parents and the students,” he said.

“The issues that were already in our manifesto are slowly and gradually being implemented,” Sadiq told Greater Kashmir.

He said that it was good that “nobody is creating hurdles” and this popular government would address all those issues that will be pro-people.

Asked whether reverting back to the November academic session needed LG’s nod, the NC leader said, “I don’t know the nitty gritties but I am sure that the Education Minister may have figured it out. I believe the order issued by the Education Minister was in her domain. There are some issues that need to be sent to the LG but primarily ministers can issue the orders on their own as they are the heads of their ministries.”
