Kupwara, Apr 30:  National Conference (NC) Vice President and former Chief Minister Wednesday embarked on a comprehensive tour of flood-affected areas in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, witnessing firsthand, the widespread devastation caused by the recent floods.

The relentless rainfall led to floodwaters breaching bunds, resulting in significant damage to homes, infrastructure, and agricultural land. Omar said that in response to the crisis, he suspended all campaigning activities temporarily and immediately mobilised resources to address the emergency.

Accompanied by party colleagues including Nasir Aslam Wani, former cabinet ministers Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan and Mir Safullah, former Minster of State Javid Dar, former Member Legislative Council Qaiser Jamsheed Lone and former IGP and incharge Langate constituency Shafqat Watali visited numerous affected regions throughout the day, listening to the concerns of residents and assessing the extent of the damage.

"Our priority is to extend a helping hand to those affected by the floods. We are here to provide immediate relief and support to the people in distress," the former CM said while talking to reporters in Kulangam Handwara.

Despite questions about electoral campaigns, the former Chief Minister reiterated a non-political stance during the tour. "I am not here for campaigns or elections. Any questions regarding campaigns will be addressed at a later time. Our focus now is solely on assisting the affected communities," he said.

Promising long-term solutions, the former CM pledged to develop comprehensive flood management programs for the affected areas. "We understand the importance of proactive measures to mitigate future disasters," Omar Abdullah affirmed.

"We will work tirelessly to ensure that the necessary infrastructure and resources are in place to tackle such situations effectively," he added.
