Omar Abdullah govt has failed on all fronts: BJP
Srinagar, Jan 1: BJP today said that Omar Abdullah-led National Conference (NC) government has failed on all fronts during its three-month long tenure.
The scathing remarks by BJP came in the aftermath of recent snowfall that disrupted daily life across the Kashmir Valley.
BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur, addressing a press conference here, alleged that the NC government has “failed on every front” and exists merely “on paper.” Highlighting the ruling party’s unfulfilled electoral promises, Thakur said that it has almost been three months since the NC government came to power, but they have failed to deliver on their guarantees. “Their manifesto promised 12 free gas cylinders, 200 units of free electricity, 10 kilograms of rice, one lakh jobs, and the regularisation of daily wagers. None of these promises have been fulfilled,” he said.
The BJP leader said that the snowfall that blanketed the plains, including Srinagar, last week further exposed the government’s inefficiency, “There was light snowfall, yet, even four days later, link roads remain closed,” Thakur said. “NC made tall claims about efficient governance, but these claims were restricted to statements. Snow has been cleared from roads only on paper, and electricity restoration exists only on paper. Viral videos show people pleading for snow clearance and electricity. This is a government run through press statements, not actions,” he said.
BJP chief spokesperson accused Omar Abdullah for what he termed “a tradition of U-turns.” He accused the Chief Minister of reneging on his commitments. “When out of power, Abdullah and the NC leaders vowed to throw electricity meters into the Tawi in Jammu and the Jhelum in Kashmir. Now, in power, they claim round-the-clock electricity will only be possible once 100 percent metering is achieved,” he said.
“We condemn the hardships faced by people due to a mere few inches of snow,” Thakur said, demanding that the Chief Minister take immediate steps to address public grievances. “The government must come up to the expectations of the people who had high hopes from this administration.”
About the BJP’s achievements in Kashmir, Thakur claimed that the Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir were conducted peacefully under the BJP’s governance, marking a turning point in J&K’s history. “The BJP government has put the last nail in the coffin of terrorism in Kashmir, and today, Kashmir is terror-free,” he asserted.
Thakur also announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would inaugurate the Vande Bharat train service connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country on January 26. The BJP spokesperson hailed this development as a “milestone in integrating Kashmir into India’s development narrative.”
“In our recent membership drive, we added 1.75 lakh new members. This brings the BJP’s total membership in the valley to 5.25 lakh since our last drive in 2019,” Thakur said.
