Old Habba Kadal shopkeepers decry slow work on bridge
Srinagar: Shopkeepers at the historic old Habba Kadal area here today expressed their resentment over slow maintenance work on the iconic bridge.
The shopkeepers stated that inordinate delay has caused significant disruptions in the daily routines of residents and businesses alike.
“The old Habba Kadal bridge, known for its architectural significance and historical importance, has been undergoing maintenance for the past many years. We as shopkeepers and residents are feeling frustrated as the project seems to be progressing at a snail’s pace,” said the shopkeepers while speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Zahoor Ahmad, a shop owner in the area, expressed his dismay, stating that the bridge holds a special place in the hearts of the locals and is essential for their businesses. “However, the prolonged maintenance work is affecting foot traffic, resulting in a considerable drop in customers and business losses as well.”
Mukhtar Ahmed, another shopkeeper said: “We are facing numerous inconveniences due to the slow pace of the maintenance work. With commuters having to take longer detours, leading to increased travel times and fuel expenses.”
