The new outlet, located near the famous Naibasti temple of the town along the Khanabal -Pahalgam (KP) road , will be managed by Farooq Ahmad Darzi, a retired mathematics lecturer, who said the venture aims to “bring quality and employment opportunities” to Kashmir. “Customers in Kashmir deserve access to the same healthy and premium snacking options that people enjoy in metro cities,” Darzi said. “We hope to create jobs and promote healthy living through this venture.”

The Nut Lounge is a retail concept by Nutraj, one of India’s largest dry fruit and health food brands. The company operates 10 other stores across India, including eight in the Delhi-NCR region including Noida and  Gurgaon, one in Lucknow, and one in Jammu region of J&K. Vishal Kapoor, the owner of Nutraj, said the expansion into Kashmir has been long in the making.

“We  have been in this business for decades. Initially, we planned to collaborate with large chains like D-Mart, Walmart, Reliance, or ITC,” Kapoor said. “But since 2016, we decided to create our own exclusive outlets—and it’s been a successful journey.”

The brand’s stores are themed “health and wellness lounges,” offering more than 300 varieties of globally sourced nuts, seeds, and dried fruits—including almonds, pistachios, cashews, and flavoured mixes. On the inauguration day, the outlet drew an enthusiastic crowd. “We are quite lucky to have it in Anantnag,” said Aadil Khurshid, one of the first customers. “The variety, especially Turkish nuts and flavoured coffee blends, is something new for the town.” Founded in 1926, Nutraj has become a pioneer in India’s healthy snacking industry, offering premium dry fruits and health-focused food products through modern retail experiences across major cities and airports.
