Srinagar, Oct 2: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday called for inculcating values of non-violence, truth, tolerance, and compassion among the young generation.

Addressing the Jammu and Kashmir-level function commemorating the 156th birth anniversary celebration of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, in Srinagar, LG Sinha paid tributes to Mahatma and said his ideals were a source of inspiration for humanity.

He said that it was the collective responsibility of society to inculcate the values of non-violence, truth, tolerance, and compassion among the young generation.

“We live in a time when global challenges threaten to undermine peace and stability. We must follow the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi to address contemporary challenges,” the LG said.

He said that the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was turning Mahatma’s dreams into reality.

“The principles of selfless service (Sewa) and duties (Kartavya) to which Gandhiji was committed will guide us in the journey of building ‘Viksit Bharat’. With economic prosperity, we are determined to build a society powered by moral force and based on equity and justice,” LG Sinha said.

He also urged the people to adopt Swadeshi and buy products made by Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

“Remember your roots and the ageless spirit of India as you chart the future course. Society and nature must exist in harmony. Focus on research and development. We should also ensure that agriculture, industry, and service sectors are working in harmony for a prosperous economy,” the LG said.

He also extended felicitations to the people on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.

LG Sinha congratulated the districts and schools for their performance during Sewa Parv.

He also felicitated members of the Gandhi Global Family, Sant Nirankari Mission, and Har Ghar Tiranga campaign volunteers.

The event, organised by the Department of School Education and the Department of Culture, also marked the closing ceremony of Sewa Parv.

Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo; President Gandhi Global Family, J&K, Padma Shri S P Varma; Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department, Shantmanu; Principal Secretary Culture, Brij Mohan Sharma, and Secretary, School Education, Ram Niwas Sharma also attended the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations.
