NTTA commends initiatives for World Craft City Status, GI Tagging
Srinagar, July 11: Manzoor Wangnoo, Chairman of the Nigeen Tourist Traders Association (NTTA), praised the Handicrafts Department's efforts during a significant meeting focused on promoting and preserving Kashmir's handicrafts. According to a statement, the session, led by Mehmood Ahad Shah, Director of Handloom and Handicrafts, addressed the critical need to protect these cherished crafts.
Wangnoo commended Shah and his team for their achievements, including securing World Craft City status and initiating the GI Tag process. These milestones are seen as crucial steps in reviving Kashmir's handicrafts and supporting local artisans.
"Handicrafts are a defining element of our cultural identity," Wangnoo stated, emphasizing the need for strict enforcement and public awareness to combat counterfeit products. He called for mandatory product labeling and rigorous checks to ensure craft authenticity.
The NTTA Chairman praised the Directorate of Handicrafts for their commitment to promoting and reviving Kashmir's handicrafts, noting their role in sustaining heritage and supporting artisans' economic well-being.
Wangnoo expressed optimism that this meeting would lead to meaningful change and urged all stakeholders to support efforts in promoting authentic Kashmir crafts and honouring skilled artisans.
