NTPC hands over 5 hydrogen fuel cell buses to SIDCO at Leh’s Green Hydrogen Station
Leh, June 18: In a significant step towards clean and sustainable transportation, NTPC Limited on Wednesday formally handed over five hydrogen fuel cell buses to the State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO), Union Territory of Ladakh, at the NTPC Green Hydrogen Mobility Station in Palam, Leh.
This initiative marks India’s first commercial deployment of hydrogen-powered buses, and at the world’s highest altitude, it sets a globally significant milestone in green mobility.
The handing-over ceremony was held in the presence of Bhupesh Chaudhary, Administrative Secretary of the Transport Department, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Leh, and senior officials from NTPC, SIDCO, and other departments. After the formal flag-off, Secretary Bhupesh Chaudhary conducted an extensive inspection of the NTPC Green Hydrogen Plant, examining its hydrogen production, storage, and dispensing systems.
Chaudhary commended NTPC’s pioneering work in introducing cutting-edge technology in the challenging terrain of Ladakh. He highlighted the project’s importance in advancing the UT Administration’s vision of a carbon-neutral Ladakh.
The deployment of hydrogen fuel cell buses is part of NTPC’s broader green energy initiative to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable mobility solutions in India’s remote and ecologically sensitive regions.
