Nowgam High School in Mawer area operating without principal
Kupwara, Nov 17_ The Government High School Nowgam in Mawer area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district is operating without principal for last several months thereby affecting the work culture of the school.
Locals of the area told Greater Kashmir that the school was not only functioning without a principal but even teachers deputed here were not in full strength causing immense hardships for the students. They said that to cope up with dearth of staff, two newly posted vocational teachers here, have been assigned to teach different subjects which goes against the set norms because they are supposed to teach only vocational subjects.
Parents of different students studying at GHS Nowgam revealed that in absence of principal, the school was not functioning properly. "The work culture of the school has got affected badly but authorities are yet to depute a principal here much to the disappointment of parents," said father of a student.
The residents also complained about a dilapidated building in the courtyard of school posing threat to the lives of students.
According to an official, the building in question was damaged in 2014 when a heavy deodar tree fell on the roof top causing massive damage to the building. The residents said that the building can collapse anytime and during rains the chances increase manifold but still authorities were watching as mute spectators.
The residents said that they have brought these issues into the notice of concerned department numerous times but nothing concrete has come out of their repeated pleas, much to their disappointment.
The residents have now sought immediate intervention of MLA Langate Shiekh Khursheed in this regard so that these issues may be redressed. Officials said they are looking into the matter.
