Kargil, Mar 26: Noted environmentalist and educationist Sonam Wangchuk today ended his 21 day long climate fast in Leh.

On the last day of Wangchuk’s fast, veteran Bollywood actor Prakash Raj celebrated his 59th birthday by joining him in the fast. The environmentalist announced the end of his fast with a post on X, “END 21st Day OF MY #CLIMATEFAST I'll be back... 7000 people gathered today. It was the end of the 1st leg of my fast. Btw 21 days was the longest fast Gandhi ji kept. From tomorrow women's groups of Ladakh will take it forward with a 10 Days fast, then the youth, then the monks from monasteries... then me again n so on. The journey has only started. But we still hope n trust we won't have to do all this. Sooner rather than later a sense of responsible leadership will arise in @narendramodi ji n @AmitShah ji.." Wangchuk posted on X, Tuesday.

Wangchuk was on a 21-day climate fast since March 6 demanding statehood and inclusion of Ladakh in the 6th schedule of Constitution.

He had begun his fast also over environmental issues concerning the cold desert. On his birthday, the Veteran actor Parkash Raj joined Sonam Wangchuk in Leh and extended solidarity and support for his ongoing protest. On the occasion Prakash said issues raised by Wangchuk concern every person on the earth and appealed everyone to join Wangchuk’s efforts.

"Every citizen of this country should understand that the reason of holding this protest as it concerns everyone, adding that Sonam Wangchuk is suffering himself only to make it easier for others to live, " Prakash said. He said that this protest is not only for the people of Ladakh or Sonam Wangchuk himself but for every citizen and human on this earth. Prakash added that every citizen should extend solidarity with the prominent social-environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk who has inspired many people with his work. " Industrialisation can fill the pockets of rich or help government but it will have serious repercussions for common people here," the actor added.

Raj used his social media platforms to express his support for Wangchuk and the people of Ladakh. In a video message, he emphasized the need for environmental conservation and safeguarding our future.
