Northern Command hosts Veterans’ Day rally
Rajouri, Jan 13: The Indian Army on Tuesday began a two-day ex-servicemen rally in Rajouri to mark the 10th Veterans’ Day, bringing together veterans, serving personnel and civil authorities to honour the service and sacrifices of former soldiers.
The rally is being organised by the Northern Army Command of Indian Army for ex-serviceman hailing from all the areas of the Area of Responsibility (AoR) of Northern Command.
The event started in Rajouri brought together veterans, serving personnel and citizens in a collective tribute to the Nation’s defenders.
The first day of rally was graced by J&K Government Minister Satish Sharma as chief guest who was accompanied by Army Commander Northern Command Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, General Officer Commanding White Knight Corps Lt Gen PK Mishra, senior officers of civil administration, police and BSF, Chairman District Development Council Rajouri and other dignitaries.
Lieutenant General PK Mishra, General Officer Commanding, White Knight Corps delivered the welcome address, extending heartfelt gratitude to all veterans for their selfless contribution for Nation building.
During the event, Minister Satish Sharma digitally inaugurated the Veerangana Seva Kendra, a dedicated Helpline Number for Veer Naris aimed at providing timely assistance and guidance.
A special felicitation ceremony was held to recognise the exemplary contribution of veterans in various fields.
In addition, assistive aids including electric wheelchairs, mobile scooters and e rickshaws were distributed among specially abled and senior veterans.
The event also featured an informal interaction between the dignitaries and veterans, fostering camaraderie and the sharing of experiences.
In his address, the Minister Satish Sharma lauded bravery and commitment of the Armed Forces personnel, emphasising the Government’s ongoing initiatives for veteran welfare and rehabilitation.
Sharma also said that Jammu and Kashmir Government is committed for welfare of people with Ex-servicemen are on top priority and government will undertake all possible steps for welfare of ex-serviceman and their families.
The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Brigadier Pankaj Chib (Retd), Director, Rajya Sainik Board highlighting the essence of brotherhood and gratitude.
During the event, several motorised wheel chairs, E-rikshaws, scooties for specially abled were handed over to Ex-servicemen and their families.
A number of stalls were also installed by various agencies, departments, army units to facilitate ex-servicemen with stall from Director General Resettlement provided much needed guidance to Ex-servicemen to explore avenues by which they can get job in private sector as well as in MNCs.
