Jammu, Nov 22: General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Northern Command, Lieutenant General M V Suchindra Kumar has “reviewed and carried out firing of the newly inducted Asmi machine pistols at Udhampur.”Purely an indigenous weapon, the Asmi machine pistol has been jointly developed by Colonel Prasad Bansod of the Indian Army and ARDE, Pune.

On November 5, 2024, Indian Army inducted 550 “Asmi” machine pistols into Northern Command. The weapon, developed by Col Bansod in collaboration with DRDO, is being manufactured indigenously by Lokesh Machine, Hyderabad.

The “Asmi” machine pistol, according to the Army, is a robust, compact and reliable weapon designed for close quarter battles and specialised operations. Its unique semi-bullpup design allows for single-handed operations, both as a pistol and submachine gun.
