North Kashmir witnesses 17 encounters in 2024
Baramulla, Dec 30: As the year 2024 nears end, the north Kashmir area of Kashmir division witnessed killing of 28 terrorists, five security personnel, two civilians in 17 encounters throughout the year 2024.
The gunfights included eight infiltration bids across the north Kashmir area. Even if the first three months remained calm, the first infiltration bid was reported on April 5 of 2024 along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of north Kashmir's Baramulla district. This was followed by a gunfight reported in Sopore town of Baramulla district on April 26.
There was a brief lull for over a month and a gunfight was reported in Rafiabad area of Baramulla on June 19 of 2024. After a gap of two days, a gunfight was reported along the LoC in Uri sector on June 22 while on June 27 a terrorist hideout was busted in Kupwara district. There was an increase in the infiltration attempts and operations launched along the LoC in July month.
A gunfight was reported on July 23 in Lolab area of Kupwara district while a BAT action was reported in Machil sector on July 27.
Operations were witnessed in August and September month as two operations were witnessed in Sopore and Kupwara while a gunfight was reported in Tappar area of Baramulla on September 13.
On October 24, a major attack was reported in Botapathri of Gulmarg in Baramulla district.
In the first nine days of November, around five terrorists were killed in different operations launched across north Kashmir.
The month of December remained calm and no terrorist activity was reported in the north Kashmir region.
