Non-local charred to death in overnight blaze in Batergam Kupwara

Kupwara, Mar 5: A non-local person was charred to death in a devastating fire that broke out in a three-storied shopping complex in the Batergam area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Locals said that a shopping complex comprising several shops and a hotel were caught in a massive blaze on Monday night, reducing the structure to ashes.

“An embroider from West Bengal, identified as Muhammad Feroz Alam, who was putting up in the third storey of the complex was charred to death by the time the raging flames were controlled,” a local said.

One of the friends of the deceased said that he had been in the embroidery business for the last 15 years and was staying in this complex for the last few years.

A Police official confirmed the death of the non-local.
