Srinagar, Jan 27: National Conference (NC) leader and MLA Hazratbal, Salman Ali Sagar today said that there is no need of confrontation with central government on restoration of statehood. He said the efforts being taken up by present Omar Abdullah-led dispensation will be productive and result oriented.

“The chief minister Omar Abdullah has already cleared that right things will be taken up at right time. Today the elected government has been in place for over three months. The government is doing its efforts in a best manner to get the statehood back. Already the head of the elected government held series of talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and other union leaders over the matter, and the government has got positive response till date,” he said.

“The J&K government has firm belief that Government of India will respect peoples’ mandate regarding restoration of statehood and other pressing issues. And we are hopeful that the centre will take up the matter of statehood seriously in coming times,” the NC leader as per Greater Kashmir said.

The NC leader while replying to a query said that there is no need of confrontation with centre over the matter of statehood. “The opposition wants to create ruckus but we believe there is no need of confrontation or protest as of now. Both the ends are working in a cordial atmosphere. The efforts being taken up under the leadership of chief minister Omar Abdullah will be productive and result oriented. The issues pertaining to people will be resolved anyhow,” he said.

On Budgam bypolls, he replied that party high command is authorized to take a call on the name of the candidate. “Once the schedule is announced, the party high command will take a call, and announce a suitable candidate for the assembly segment,” he said.
