No manual scavenging found in J&K's Ramban district: Officials
Srinagar, Dec 20: Authorities on Friday invited objections regarding the declaration of Ramban as manual scavenging free district. They said the objections shall be submitted in writing form to the Office of District Social Welfare Officer, Ramban within 15 days from the date of publication of notice.
An order issued by District Magistrate Ramban reads, “In pursuance of order dated 20.10.2023 of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in WP(C) 324/2020 filed by Dr. Balram Singh and the Guidelines for Survey of Manual Scavengers issued by the Government of India vide letter dated 1st Feb 2024, the survey of Manual Scavengers has been undertaken and completed in District Ramban, and no Manual Scavengers have been found in the district”.
“In accordance with this, objections, if any, regarding this declaration are hereby invited from the general public or claimants. Such objections must be submitted in writing to the Office of District Social Welfare Officer, Ramban, within 15 days from the date of publication of this notice”.
“The objections may be submitted in person or sent via email to dswo.ramban@gmail.com. After the stipulated period, if no objections are received, the district will be officially notified as Manual Scavenging Free,” it further reads.
