No idea about reason behind Maldives controversy: Farooq

Jammu, Jan 9: National Conference president and the former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah Tuesday stated that he did not comprehend exactly the reason behind ongoing India-Maldives diplomatic row as the former (India) always helped it (Maldives).

While speaking to a news agency, Farooq in response to a question about ongoing controversy between the two nations, said that only the Foreign ministry (officials) would be able to share the genesis of this row as he had never been there (Maldives).

In the same breath, he wondered if it was because of the growing chasm between Hindus and Muslims in India.

Farooq said he knew that China was exerting its influence over its neighbours and India was engaged in talks to sort out the issues. “I don’t know the exact reason. I only know that India has always helped that country,” he said.
