Anantnag, Nov 19: All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary, G A Mir, on Tuesday said congress unequivocally supports the contents of the recently passed resolution in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.

“The Congress supported the resolution in its entirety. It advocates for statehood, a cause we have always championed. The resolution also emphasises constitutional safeguards, which align with our long-standing position,” Mir said. He dismissed claims of disagreement within the alliance over the resolution, saying, “If anyone attempts to misinterpret it, we cannot control that.”

However, Mir clarified, “There is no conflict regarding the resolution. It has been widely appreciated, even by those who often disagree with us on various issues. We stand by every word of it. What lies beyond its text is speculative and not within our understanding.”

Mir dismissed speculation of cracks in the NC-Congress alliance over regional priorities. “The NC is a regional party with a regional agenda, while Congress is a national party with broader considerations. Neither can become the other. Our coordination is based on decades of shared ideology,” he said. He acknowledged minor differences in wording and approach but insisted these do not threaten the alliance.

“To claim we are quitting the alliance or that there are serious differences is completely wrong,” he said.
