NLCO pursues sustained restoration of Urban Lakes in Srinagar
Srinagar, Nov 12: The Chairman of Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO) met the Commissioner Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department (H&UDD) Mandeep Kaur to discuss the ongoing restoration of Gilsar–Khushalsar and to submit a follow-up communication seeking expedited measures for their conservation.
During the meeting, NLCO also proposed the formal handing over of Anchar Lake to the competent authority for dedicated conservation, management, and scientific rejuvenation. The concept of developing a Tourism Village around the twin lakes was also discussed, aimed at promoting community-based tourism, eco-restoration, and livelihood generation.
The Secretary H&UDD assured continued support for strengthening scientific and sustained restoration measures under a coordinated approach involving the Lake Conservation & Management Authority (LCMA) and other concerned departments.
“NLCO reaffirmed its commitment to continue its collaborative efforts with the administration and local stakeholders to restore and protect Srinagar’s vital urban water bodies while integrating sustainable tourism and community participation for long-term ecological and economic stability,” Wangnoo said.
