Nitin Gadkari meets Dr Karan Singh in Srinagar

Srinagar, June 15: In a significant development aimed at enhancing infrastructure and connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Minister for Road, Transport, and Highways Nitin Gadkari met with Dr Karan Singh, former Sadr-e-Riyasat of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir and former Member of Parliament, at his residence in Srinagar.

The meeting primarily focused on discussing the progress and development of upcoming road and national highway projects in J&K.

During the discussions, Gadkari briefed Singh about the strategic importance of these infrastructure projects, emphasising their role in bolstering connectivity and supporting economic growth in the region.

He provided updates on several key projects, including the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, the Delhi-Katra Expressway, and the Zojila Tunnel project.

Also present at the meeting was Dr Singh’s son, Vikramaditya Singh, former MLC and Trustee of J&K Dharmarth Trust, who expressed his pleasure at hosting the Union Minister and his father at his residence.

“It was a privilege and pleasure to host the Minister of Road Transport and Highways, GoI, Nitin Gadkari Ji along with my father, Karan Singh at our residence in Srinagar. We discussed and learned about the unparalleled highway infrastructure development underway across India and the highway and tunnel projects in Jammu and Kashmir @nitin_gadkari,” Vikramaditya Singh posted on X.

Gadkari reiterated the government’s commitment to expediting the completion of these projects, which are expected to significantly improve transportation networks, reduce travel time, and enhance safety for commuters.

He underscored the Centre’s dedication to realising the vision of a well-connected and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring a brighter future for the region.

Dr Singh voiced his support for the initiatives, highlighting the potential benefits for the local population, including increased accessibility to remote areas, promotion of tourism, and creation of job opportunities.

He emphasised the critical role of robust infrastructure in the socio-economic development of Jammu and Kashmir, acknowledging the positive impact these projects would have on the region's overall growth.

Dr Singh expressed his appreciation for the government’s efforts and urged for continued focus on infrastructure development in the region.
