NIT Srinagar students develop model for Fake Voter Detection with AI Drone
Srinagar, Sep 12: National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar students have developed a working model for ‘Fake Voter Detection’ with AI Drone
The DC office Srinagar- Election Commission of India Thursday conducted a mass SVEEP awareness program in collaboration with NIT) Srinagar and other colleges and schools at the River Bank Jhelum.
Dr Dinesh Kumar Rajendran, Nodal Officer of SVEEP at NIT Srinagar, along with a team of 30 students, participated in the event. As a technical institute, the students developed a working model for Automated Fake Voter Detection using drone surveillance.
This AI-based model identifies voters list associated with the polling station and matches them with individuals standing in the queue. It then sends automatic feedback to the central surveillance room for verification if the list found to be unmatching with the person and data.
The future plan is to send a direct message to the presiding officer if any fake voter is detected in the queue, further a message will be send to Zonal majestrate for cross verification.
Both Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. A. Ravinder Nath and Registrar Prof. Atikur Rahman have congratulated the students for their new model. They said that there is no dearth of talent at the NIT and students needed right guidance and counselling.
Dr. Dinesh also mentioned that the institution is exploring possible collaborations with NIELIT Srinagar to conduct research on drones.
The second stall showcased a mock polling station. Students of NIT Srinagar designed a ballot box using a microcontroller and Arduino, featuring different symbols like alpha, beta, and others. There were around 10 symbols in total, including the option for NOTA.
The polling conducted within the machine will be securely stored, and it is highly protected from tampering or hacking through a blockchain system.
In addition to this, more than 20 colleges and schools participated in the event, delivering various activities to raise awareness about voting and promoting the cause along the Jhelum riverfront.
