Srinagar, Feb 7: A student of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has secured second place at the All India Inter NIT Chess and Athletics Tournament held at NIT Jalandhar, officials said on Saturday.

Satinder Singh (Roll No. 2023BECE010) finished second on Board 1 in the chess competition, competing against participants from NITs across the country.

Congratulating the student, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, as per a statement issued congratulated the student on the achievement and said the performance reflected the institute’s emphasis on promoting sports alongside academics.

Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman also appreciated the effort and acknowledged the support extended by the accompanying staff.

Dean of Students Welfare (DSW), Prof. Abid Bazaz, lauded the performance and encouraged students to participate in national-level sporting events, stating that such achievements enhance the institute’s sporting profile.

The NIT Srinagar team was accompanied by Sohail Ahmad Baba, SAS Assistant, and Mohammad Subhan from the SAS Centre staff during the tournament.

In-charge Faculty, Sports and Athletics Section (SAS), Dr. Manoj Kumar, also congratulated Satinder Singh on the achievement and said the institute is steadily strengthening its sports ecosystem to support talented athletes.

SAS Officer, Kowsar Ali Mir, said NIT Srinagar remains committed to promoting a vibrant sports culture on campus. “We are continuously working to provide better facilities and training to students," she added.
