Srinagar, July 9: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is all set to re-register the case and will undertake an investigation into the 2023 terrorist attack on an Army convoy in Poonch district of Jammu.

On April 20, 2023, an Army vehicle was ambushed by unidentified terrorists in the Bhata Dhurian area of Poonch district. The incident resulted in the deaths of five personnel from a Rashtriya Rifles unit, which was actively engaged in counter-terrorism operations in Poonch Additionally, one soldier sustained serious injuries.

Greater Kashmir has learnt from credible sources that NIA is all set to re-register the case for further thorough investigations and will focus on identifying any potential connections between this attack and recent terrorist activities in J&K.

On Tuesday, the NIA team supported the Jammu and Kashmir police in investigating a terrorist attack that took place on Monday in the Kathua district. In this incident, five Army personnel, including a junior commissioned officer, were killed, and several others were injured. The attack occurred on the rugged Machedi-Kindli-Malhar mountainous road near Badnota village, approximately 150 km from Kathua district’s headquarters.

Pertinently, this recent ambush in Kathua marked the fifth terrorist attack in Jammu within a month. The attackers targeted a patrolling party, causing significant casualties and raising concerns over the security situation in the area.
