NHRC takes suo motu cognisance of attacks on journalists in Kerala, Manipur, Tripura
New Delhi, Oct 22: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of media reports regarding separate attacks on journalists in Kerala, Manipur, and Tripura, and issued notices to the Directors General of Police of the three states seeking detailed reports within two weeks.
According to reports, a journalist in Tripura was assaulted by miscreants armed with sticks and sharp weapons during a clothes distribution event in Hezamara, West Tripura, and his motorcycle was stolen.
In Manipur, another journalist was shot twice with an air gun while covering a flower festival in Laii Village, Senapati district. In Kerala, a journalist was attacked near Mangattukavala in Thodupuzha while returning from a wedding. All three journalists were hospitalised following the assaults, and police have registered cases in each incident.
