NHAI urges FASTag users to fulfil KYC requirements to avoid deactivation
New Delhi, Jan 15: In a bid to streamline the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system and facilitate smoother traffic flow at toll plazas, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has launched the "One Vehicle, One FASTag" initiative. This initiative is designed to discourage the practice of using a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or associating multiple FASTags with a single vehicle.
NHAI is urging FASTag users to complete the Know Your Customer (KYC) process for their latest FASTags, aligning with the guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). FASTags with valid balances but incomplete KYC will be deactivated or blacklisted by banks after January 31, 2024.
To avoid any inconvenience, users are advised to ensure that the KYC for their latest FASTag is promptly completed. Additionally, users must adhere to the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' principle and dispose of any previously issued FASTags through their respective banks. After January 31, 2024, only the latest FASTag account will remain active, as earlier tags will be deactivated or blacklisted.
In case of queries or for further assistance, FASTag users can contact the toll plazas nearest to them or reach out to the toll-free customer care number provided by their respective issuer banks.
NHAI has taken this initiative in response to recent reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a single vehicle and instances of FASTags being distributed without proper KYC, violating the mandate set by the RBI.
Furthermore, NHAI aims to address issues where FASTags are not affixed to the vehicle's windscreen deliberately, causing unnecessary delays at toll plazas and inconvenience to other National Highway users.
With a penetration rate of approximately 98 per cent and boasting over 8 crore users, FASTag has significantly transformed the Electronic Toll Collection system in the country. The implementation of the 'One Vehicle, One FASTag' initiative is expected to enhance toll operations' efficiency, ensuring seamless and comfortable journeys for National Highway users.
