Srinagar, Mar 12:  Falling of the newly installed railing on Jahangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover has raised questions over the poor execution of works on vital projects in the summer capital.

The railing was installed on the side of the flyover overlooking Bakhshi Stadium last week. Netizens took to social media to express their dismay over what they termed as poor work.

“This is very poor quality work and a casual approach by contractors,” a netizen wrote. “Authorities must ensure proper execution of works.”

The locals also said that these issues reflect poorly on the ongoing development works. “It is unfortunate that these green sheets were raised just a few days back and could not even stand for a week. It only reflects on the casual approach of contractors and lack of proper supervision,”Abrar Ahmad, a local said.

The commuters said that the railing was installed in such a poor way and it posed risk to commuters. “This could have led to some major accident on the busy flyover or caused injuries to pedestrians,” a commuter said.

Meanwhile, during a spot visit, this reporter found out that the authorities fixed the railing in morning hours.

To mention this is not the first incident in Srinagar where the fresh developmental work had developed an issue in a few days. Earlier fountain tiles and benches at the renovated Ghanta Ghar broke last year after those were installed afresh. Locals said that the work should not have to be done twice as it is a waste of time and money.
