New Walnut Fudge Outlet Opens in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 30: A 129-year-old confectionery tradition has found new life in Munwarabad as Atif launches his dedicated walnut fudge outlet, transforming a family legacy into a modern brand.

The new shop, located near Khyber Hospital Road, represents the fourth generation of a family recipe that dates back to 1896, when Atif’s great-grandfather first crafted the signature walnut fudge alongside various handcrafted bakery items.

What began as one of many family confections has now become the centrepiece of Atif’s entrepreneurial venture. The beloved treat, which has delighted locals and tourists for over a century, maintains its traditional preparation methods while receiving a contemporary brand identity.

“This venture is a tribute to our family tradition and an effort to offer the same beloved flavour with a new identity and personal touch,” Atif explained during the shop’s opening.

The outlet was formally inaugurated by Atif’s father, Ghulam Nabi, on May 29, 2025, marking a significant milestone for the family’s confectionery heritage.

The walnut fudge has established itself as more than just a sweet treat – it has become a cultural staple in Kashmir’s gifting traditions. The delicacy is frequently included in ceremonial gift baskets, particularly for ring ceremonies and other special occasions, highlighting its role in local customs.
