New cyber cell in Pulwama aims to tackle online frauds

Pulwama, June 13: To combat online frauds, Jammu and Kashmir Police has set up a cyber cell unit in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Talking to reporters, SSP Pulwama P D Nitya said that the cell was formally inaugurated by the Director General of Police R R Swain on June 8 during his visit to the town in connection with Public Darbar.

“The motive of this press briefing is to apprise the people about the opening of this unit”, she said. Nitya said that the people who suffered due to online frauds could file their complaints with the cell.

“Be it a complaint related to financial, social media, hacking or impersonation related frauds, we will try to address them promptly”, said the SSP.

She said that they would also try to solve the mobile missing or theft cases. The SSP informed that the cell had begun functioning and had already received 36 complaints.

She said they were receiving the complaints from both online and offline mode.

“Like the rest of the country, a spurt in cybercrimes has also been witnessed here over the last few years”, said the SSP.

She said that they would also expedite awareness programmes among the people including school children and youth to protect them from cyber frauds . The SSP informed that a DySP rank officer is heading the unit.

She urged people to promptly report online frauds so that police could take timely action.
