Baramulla, Feb 28: In the wake of the surge in cyber crimes, Jammu and Kashmir Police are taking proactive measures to equip their personnel with the necessary skills and knowledge to combat this growing threat.

Notably, following the rapid digitisation of various sectors and increased internet penetration, cybercriminals have found new avenues to exploit, posing a significant challenge to law enforcement agencies.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Amod Ashok Nagpure said that cybercrime was a new age crime and was a concern for the Police.

“We are training our manpower to mitigate this new threat of cybercrime. We have a Cyber Police Station in Srinagar and under their guidance, our local police stations are also working to curtail the offences under the cyber laws,” Nagpure said.

“It is a challenge but we are ready for it,” he said.

About the overall crime situation in Baramulla district, Nagpure said that the crime situation in Baramulla district was under control.

“We have made an effort to ensure that any complaints that come to us are necessary to be registered as cases. What direction those cases take afterwards is a different matter,” he said.

Stating that registration of crime was the essential part of the investigation, the SSP Baramulla said that last year Police in Baramulla ensured that all the cases were registered.

“We had a significant increase in the registration of cases in 2023, especially in NDPS cases. Our team of officers ensured 85 percent disposal of cases and presented them in court. We also made an effort to achieve a 95 percent disposal in NDPS cases,” he said.

Nagpure said that the main objective of the Police in Baramulla was that any crime should not go unnoticed.

“The Police should take cognisance. Legal actions should be taken and the case should be submitted to the court for judicial determination,” he said.

However, the SSP Baramulla said that overall the crime situation in Baramulla was under control.

“We are making every effort to ensure that the society is peaceful and free from crime,” he said.
