We are writing to draw attention to the discrepancies in the selection criteria for academic positions in the 2024 academic arrangements for Kashmir division colleges.

The current process does not adhere to UGC guidelines, resulting in significant injustice to NET and SET-qualified candidates.

Under the UGC guidelines, NET and SET qualification is required for lectureship, with an exemption for candidates holding a PhD from recognised universities.

Points for a PhD should only be awarded if the candidate meets the eligibility criteria.

Unfortunately, the academic arrangements have been disregarding these rules, awarding 25 points for a PhD when the UGC specifies only 20 points.

This has led to PhD holders from private universities outside the state being favoured annually, often without proper quality checks.

This deviation from established guidelines not only undermines the integrity of the selection process but also demoralises deserving NET and SET-qualified candidates.

The JKPSC adheres to these rules, but the academic arrangements do not, creating an uneven playing field.

We urge higher authorities to address this issue promptly and ensure that NET and SET-qualified candidates receive the fair consideration they deserve.
