NEET UG conducted smoothly across J&K
Srinagar, May 4: The Undergraduate National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2025 was conducted smoothly and efficiently across 128 examination centers in J&K today. Thousands of candidates aspiring to pursue undergraduate medical examination took the test on Sunday, conducted across India on the same day, in a single session. It was for the first time that almost the entire lot of candidates here were accommodated in centres located in J&K, the officials said.
Additional Chief Secretary Education, Shantamanu said no report of any untoward incident was received from any center. “No news is good news. The examination went on well and all the candidates were able to take their test without any issue being faced,” he said. He said the examination requires fool-proof arrangement and many departments in J&K had come together to deliver their duties. “Be it traffic, security, educational institutes, medical arrangements or other logistics, everything was put in place to provide candidates a healthy and thriving atmosphere to do their best,” he said. The scenes of this largest entrance exam were mixed ones outside the centers.
As rains lashed Srinagar towards the end of exam time, parents, family members and friends of candidates who waited outside the examination centers foraged for shelter.
At Kothi Bagh Girls Higher Secondary School, a large crowd of family members had caused a massive traffic congestion. Parents cheered their wards up as they left the examination center. Some were jubilant, some had long faces. Many candidates termed the paper ‘easy’, while others complained that ‘Chemistry was lengthy’. While most candidates had family members along, some had none and moved out towards their homes alone. “It is my third attempt and this time the paper went really well,” Omar Khan, a candidate said. He said many of the aspirants had their second and third attempts while the majority was of first timers. “NEET needs consistency. One must not lose hope if one does not score well the first time,” he said.
Outside Government Boys Higher Secondary School Jawahar Nagar, coaching institutes had set up small stalls to attract the aspirants after they had taken the test. One of the people manning the stall said a number of students take the test just after they completed class 12, without any coaching. “We are here to tell them about the coaching that we provide, for them to have a better chance,” the coaching center representative, Basit Zahoor said.
At Government Girls Higher Secondary School Amira Kadal, many parents from the Ganderbal area said they had been waiting on the road for the entire day. “We have come here with our daughter. This is her first attempt at qualifying NEET. We have been waiting outside since morning," Mohammad Aslam Bhat said. The road side was full of family members and roadside vendors had gathered to sell their edibles to families. Many parents from Kargil, Ladakh, Kupwara and other far off areas were also seen outside the centers. Now awaiting their results with fingers crossed the general mood was of relief from the stress of examination. The centers were equipped with CCTV surveillance, and candidates underwent biometric verification to maintain transparency.
