Srinagar, Mar 17: National Conference (NC) chief spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq today condemned police action against women in south Kashmir’s Kulgam, and demanded action against the officer involved.

“We all condemn this act in the House. Violence in any form against women or any other citizen is unacceptable. A thorough investigation must be initiated into the incident and strict action should be taken against the said police officer,” Sadiq said.

This was in response to the video that surfaced showing a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) allegedly kicking and abusing women protesters in Kulgam. The women and other relatives of two missing youth who were later found dead under mysterious circumstances, were protesting over the death of their loved ones.

The footage triggered outrage, leading to protests inside the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly even on Monday. Legislators from the National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Congress, regardless of party affiliation, united in protest over the issue inside the Assembly.

When asked about the limitations of the budget, NC leader acknowledged that a single budget session cannot resolve all the concerns.

“One budget cannot solve everything. There are many concerns. It is our responsibility to address all of them, but it will take time. We will take into consideration the concerns of all MLAs,” he stated.
